What is soft butch?
Soft butch is a masculine-of-center presentation that sits toward the softer or more androgynous side of butch. People use it when butch fits, but classic hard-butch aesthetics do not.

Soft butch is one of several words people use for living between hard butch and femme. It still claims masculine-of-center ground; it just does not require the sharpest version of that look or manner.
Like other presentation labels, it only fits if someone chooses it. Nearby words include soft masc, futch, and stem, which have their own histories and, in stem's case, racial specificity.
Soft butch is not a halfway identity that needs correcting into hard butch. It is a complete way people describe themselves.
