What does masc mean?
Masc is short for masculine. In LGBTQ and sapphic spaces it usually describes a masculine-of-center look, vibe, or self-description. It does not mean someone is a man, and it is broader and looser than butch.

People put masc in bios, dating profiles, and chat the same way they put femme. It signals presentation: clothes, hair, manner, or how someone wants to be read. Lesbians and other sapphics use it without giving up being women or woman-aligned.
Butch is a related word with a longer lesbian cultural history. Masc is the wider, more casual label. Someone might be masc without calling themself butch, or use both.
In gay men's apps, masc can carry different baggage, including exclusionary masc4masc talk. In sapphic chat it is usually just a presentation shorthand.
