Privacy Policy

This page explains what The Sapphic Sanctuary knows about you, why we need that information, and what you can ask us to do with it.

1. Who we are

The Sapphic Sanctuary("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at https://www.sapphicforum.com. We provide an online sapphic forum for queer community, creativity, and conversation.

For privacy questions, use our Contact page.

2. Information we collect

Account information

Clerk handles sign-in. It may process your email address, username or display name, profile image, and sign-in identifiers. We keep a linked user record so your account and posts work properly.

Content you submit

We store the threads, replies, and other material you post. Anything posted in a public area may be seen by visitors and search engines, so do not post information there that you want to keep private.

Technical and usage data

Our systems may receive your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location based on IP, pages viewed, and timestamps. We use this data to investigate abuse, fix technical problems, and check how the forum is performing.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, security, and essential site function. Details are in our Cookie Policy.

3. How we use information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the forum
  • Authenticate members and protect accounts
  • Display your profile and contributions to other members
  • Moderate content and enforce our Terms and Guidelines
  • Respond to support requests and safety reports
  • Comply with law and protect rights, safety, and integrity

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your private account data to train unrelated third-party advertising models.

4. How we share information

These are the situations in which somebody else may receive it:

  • Service providers such as Clerk, our host, database provider, and email provider, when they need the data to run the site
  • Other members and visitors when you post in a public forum area
  • Authorities or professional advisers when the law requires it or disclosure is needed to prevent serious harm
  • A new operator if the project is transferred or reorganized. This policy will continue to apply until you are told otherwise

5. Retention

We keep account and post data while your account is active. Some records may remain longer for moderation, backups, disputes, or legal obligations. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove or anonymize the personal data we control unless we have a legal reason to keep it. Public posts may remain under an anonymous name when deleting them would break the surrounding conversation.

6. Children and age

You must be at least 16 to use The Sapphic Sanctuary. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger. If you think an underage person has made an account, please contact us.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion or restriction of processing
  • Object to certain processing
  • Receive a portable copy of data you provided
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

You can update some profile details in your account settings. Use the Contact page for anything else. We may ask you to prove that the account is yours before handing over or deleting data.

8. International transfers

Our providers may process data in the United States or other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by those providers for cross-border transfers.

9. Security

Clerk provides authentication, and we limit access to the systems that hold personal data. No website is perfectly secure. Use a unique password and keep your devices protected.

10. Third-party links

The forum and footer may link to external mental health, disability, and community resources. Their privacy practices are their own. Review those policies before sharing information with them.

11. Changes

We may change this policy. When we do, the date at the top of the page will change. If a change needs your consent under local law, we will ask for it.
