24. i live in their house. their car insurance, their wifi, Sunday service is not a discussion. i have a girlfriend they have met as "my friend from work." she is patient and i can tell it's costing her.

coming out as a lesbian to religious parents

they're evangelical, the kind with a small group on Wednesdays and opinions about everyone in it. i don't need a speech about being brave. i need what you said, and whether you said it before you had a way to leave.

coming out while you still live there

if i tell them this month i might be telling them from a bedroom they pay for. if i wait, my girlfriend keeps being a coworker in their kitchen. both options are bad. which bad did you pick.

    i waited until the lease had my name on it. the conversation went worse than i hoped and i still slept in my own place. if the wifi and the bed are theirs, they can make the week ugly fast.

    different house, still religious. i told my mom two weeks before Eid because i didn't want it landing in the middle of aunties in the kitchen. she went quiet, then asked if the aunties would know. i said not from me, not this year. we're still in that bargain. thin, and we're still talking.

    get your own phone line if you're still on their plan. sounds small. it isn't, the week someone starts reading who you text.

    lease first, then the sentence. i hate that the honest order is the slow one. she said she can do slow if she knows that's the plan and not a stall. i owe her the plan in actual words this weekend.
