butch has more history and identity weight. masc is looser. i use soft butch for myself and get called masc anyway. whatever.

so if someone's bio says masc it doesn't automatically mean they're hunting for a femme?

correct. some mascs date mascs. some don't. bio labels are about how they want to be read, not a dating menu.

on gay mens apps masc can get weird and exclusionary. in sapphic spaces it's usually just "i dress like this."
