aunt called me butch like an insult when i was 15. now people online reclaim it and i flinch every time.
i think it fits me. also my nervous system still hears her voice. how did you separate the word from the weapon.
is butch a slur or can i use it for myself

when you claim it, it's identity. when someone throws it at you, that's the problem. the word itself isn't a slur.
