i want sapphic romantasy and i keep getting handed books that are either a thousand pages of politics or a cupcake with a sword on the cover. both can be good. i want to know which is which before i haul it on the bus.

sapphic romantasy with actual dragons

i stalled in The Priory of the Orange Tree around page 200. not mad, just full. if you finished it, was the back half worth the backpack weight. The Jasmine Throne i did finish. that one earned the politics.

witches and dark academia, smaller bag

The Honey Witch was sweet and then i got bored in the middle. if your "dark academia" rec is An Education in Malice, say whether it's mean in a fun way or mean in a homework way.

    Malice is mean in the fun way if you like awful academics being awful at each other. not dragons. not homework. i finished it in four nights and was unpleasant to live with for two of them.

    Priory's back half is why people forgive the front. i liked it. i also own a hardcover i resent on public transit. Jasmine Throne is the one i tell people to read first if they want sharp and sapphic and not a romance novel wearing a map.

    mean and funny is fair. also confusing on purpose for a while. the kiss is not the point. if you want the kiss to be the point, read Malice or the tea one. Gideon is funny and people die.
